On Government St. in downtown Mobile, Alabama sits Barton Academy: Alabama's first public school, built in 1836. It served the city of Mobile's education department for 180 years until it was abandoned in 2007.
Recently I got the chance to explore this place.
Here's what I saw.
preservationists raised $3.5 million and restored in the exterior in 2015.
