This was a story that I originally pitched during a daily news meeting at WPMI in 2018. I read a press release and did initial research about a massive coal ash pit threatening the Mobile River. Talented investigative reporter Andrea Ramey ran with it and eventually earned an Alabama Broadcasters Award (ABBY) later that year.
